YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES IN YOUR DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

Although you can make changes to your Dauphin County, PA Deferred Compensation Plan throughout the year, the open enrollment period is typically a time when you are reviewing all your voluntary benefits and is a good time to review your deferred compensation account. Below is link to a video discussing what is new in the Dauphin County, PA Deferred Compensation Plan for 2023 and 2024.

Below you can download the 2024 handout that has information for both active participants and employees considering enrolling.

Things to Review During Open Enrollments

ACCOUNT ACCESS

To review your account, you need to be able to access the participant website. If you have not accessed the participant website recently, we recommend you visit our Access Alerus Website page.

CONTRIBUTIONS

AMOUNT

Under the contribution tab on the participant website, you can view and make changes to your payroll deductions. If you are receiving a pay increase in the new year, you can easily adjust your contribution level. Payroll deduction changes take place in the first pay of the month after you have submitted the change request. To have your payroll deduction change be affective in January, you will need to submit the request in December.

TYPE OF PAYROLL DEDUCTION

You can make either pre-tax or Roth 457(b) contributions. It is really a “pay me now or pay me later” decision. To simplify the matter, with the pre-tax you receive the tax deduction now and pay tax on distributions in the future. With Roth 457(b) contributions, you pay tax on the contribution before it is deposited into the plan and do not have to pay tax on qualified distributions.

To learn more about contributions, visit the Types of Contributions page.

BENEFICIARIES

It is good to periodically review your beneficiaries listed on your insurance contracts, pension, and investment accounts. You can review your Dauphin County, PA Deferred Compensation Plan beneficiaries on the Alerus website.

On the top of the main page of the Alerus participant site, select the Personal Info icon / then under the Profile tab, select Beneficiary. Beneficiary Changes can be made online.

INVESTMENTS

Time moves so quickly. It is important that you periodically review your investment account to make sure that the investments you selected are appropriate to your current goals and objectives. The Alerus Participant Website provides a lot of useful information. You also receive quarterly statements. Both are good resources. For additional information on the investments in the plan, you can visit this site’s Investments page. If you would like to review your investments with an investment advisory representative of Retirement Collaborative LLC, you can use the Investing Help link.

Rollovers

If you have retirement accounts from a previous employer and would like to know if you could consolidate your retirement investments in the deferred compensation plan, we recommend that you visit our Rollovers page.

PLANNING

If you are interested in organizing your finances and planning for the future, we have some great resources. To learn more, visit our Planning page.
